Wednesday, July 09, 2008 To think with the mind, or feel with the heart? Our mind is a powerful object that enables us to think and react. Our heart is just a piece of muscle that pumps blood around our body. But why is it that, our heart seems to be so much stronger sometimes? Logical thinking tells you "A", yet your heart is persistant with "B". The obvious answer is "C", but your heart says "D". We've always heard about "mind over body" in endurance tests. But what about "mind over heart"? To me, I doubt that it is possible. If you were to make a decision which your heart feels strongly against, you will learn to regret it. Your mind may win for the time being. But one day, you will look back and ask yourself ,"What if........" That is how regrets come about in life. You may not agree with me. It is fine. A series of personality tests tell me that I am a feeler, not a thinker. I tend to go with my intuition, not with logical thinking. Your mind may not always prevail. And your heart does not necessary fail. People with different personality sees things differently. I am nearly 18 years old. Not exactly considered young and not exactly old either. I am proud to say that I have not had any regrets so far in my life. People say that I am too optimistic. If anything bad happens, I would just think on the bright side. Others say I am not matured enough to see the mess I am in. The old people would say "hai mei you kai qiao". Honestly, I don't see anything wrong in a student from a prestigious secondary school going into a polytechnic. I don't see anything wrong in me not doing as well as people from neighbourhood schools. I don't think that my life is screwed up in any sense. In fact, I am enjoying myself. "Life isn't all about enjoyment" Whoever came up with that can jolly well commit sucide. Life is short. If we don't seize every opportunity and enjoy it, what's the purpose of life? The purpose of life is to enjoy the process of finding your purpose in life! The older generation always have this saying of "xian tian hou ku" or "xian ku hou tian". It means that you will taste the sweetness of life first before tasting the bitterness of hardship or vice versa. I think that it is utter rubbish. Surely we can find joy in the midst of sorrow. The reasons why some people always have a smile on their faces is not because they lead a blessed life. It is because they are able to see the beauty of life. There is beauty even in the ugliest painting. There is a tinge of sweetness even in the most bitter medicine. There is light even in the darkest storm. It is up to us to find it, feel it and believe in it. That is how we should enjoy life. Why spend time being sad and emo when the time could be spent smiling? (: posted at8:15 PM |
